What is this test?
MRI of the right knee is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses powerful magnetic fields to create high-resolution images of the bones, cartilage, menisci, ligaments, tendons, and surrounding soft tissues of the right knee joint. It offers superior detail compared to X-rays or CT, particularly for detecting soft tissue injuries and internal joint abnormalities.
What is it used for?
Who should get this test?
Preparation Required:
How is the procedure performed?
You will lie down on the MRI table with your right knee positioned in a dedicated coil to capture detailed images. The procedure typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes, during which the machine will take multiple image sequences from different angles. It's essential to remain still for clear and accurate results. The scan is completely painless, though some people may feel slight pressure from the coil.
Risks & Safety:
MRI is very safe, involving no exposure to ionizing radiation. Most people tolerate the scan well. If contrast is needed (e.g., in post-surgical cases or for detecting subtle inflammation), a gadolinium-based dye may be used with prior kidney function clearance. Allergic reactions to contrast are extremely rare.
Results:
A radiologist will analyze the images and provide a comprehensive report on the ligaments, menisci, cartilage, bones, and joint structures of your left knee. The findings will help your orthopedic or sports medicine specialist determine the cause of your symptoms and guide your treatment plan, whether surgical or conservative.
Short Statement:
A radiation-free MRI of the right knee to evaluate ligament tears (ACL, MCL), meniscus injuries, cartilage damage, or unexplained joint pain.
