What is this test?
This is a combination of the CIMT ultrasound with Doppler ultrasound, which evaluates both the thickness of the carotid artery walls and the blood flow within them by detecting the speed and direction of blood cells.
What is it used for?

• Measuring arterial wall thickness and detecting early atherosclerosis
• Assessing blood flow abnormalities such as narrowing or blockages
• Estimating risk for stroke and heart attack more accurately than CIMT alone
• Monitoring treatment effectiveness

Who should get this test?

• Individuals with cardiovascular risk factors or symptoms like dizziness or transient ischemic attacks
• Patients with known or suspected carotid artery disease
• Those with previous stroke or transient ischemic attacks

Preparation Required:

• No fasting or medication changes needed
• Wear comfortable clothes with neck exposure

How is the procedure performed?
Similar to CIMT, with the added Doppler mode that uses sound waves to visualize blood flow. The test takes about 30 minutes and is painless.
