What is this test?

Preparation Required:

• For men: No special preparation is typically needed for a scrotal ultrasound, though you may be asked to wear loose clothing.
• For transvaginal ultrasounds, no bladder filling is needed, and you may be asked to empty your bladder just before the test.

How is the procedure performed?

• For women: A transabdominal ultrasound involves placing a probe on the lower abdomen with conductive gel. For greater detail, a transvaginal ultrasound may be performed using a slender, lubricated probe inserted into the vagina to capture close-up images of the uterus and ovaries.
• For men: A scrotal ultrasound involves applying gel to the scrotum and gently scanning with a handheld probe to visualize the testes, epididymis, and blood flow.

The entire process typically lasts 15–30 minutes and is completely non-invasive and painless.
