The primary purpose of the lung diffusion capacity test is to check how well your lungs can inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Damaged or sick lungs aren’t able to efficiently diffuse the gas exchange process, thus amounting to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the lungs.
