    Description

A lumbar MRI scan is conducted to take high definition images of the lumbar section of the spine. Essentially, your spine is divided into three main categories, namely, the cervical, the thoracic, and the lumbar.

This specific image diagnostic test is done to evaluate and identify issues in the lumbar spine or the lower section of your back.

The lumbar spine section is comprised of five lumbar vertebrae i.e. L1 to L5, the bottom section of the spine, and the tailbone.

The MRI lumbar spine scan is used to look at the lumbar spine in a non-invasive manner, wherein images are taken of the section as well its surrounding structure, namely,

    • Tendons
    • Ligaments
    • Cartilage
    • Neves
    • Large blood vessels

The lumbar MRI scan can check this spinal section for infections, spinal trauma or injuries, and spinal diseases.
